The Needs of Yacht Racing Associations

The Clear Lake Racing Association needed a web site where they could post race results, and the reams of pictures which their Wednesday Night event generates. The site also needed to serve as a place to post communications to racing sailors and the public. In addition, CLRA wanted pictures on the home page to change every time someone came to the web site. To do this, Bayview Internet Group developed the first of their templates that feature programmable Active Content. Using this template, the owner is able to load multiple images for a single area on the web page, and then specify how often the picture changes.

Every yacht racing event has at least three required documents that impart information to all potential competitors. The 'Notice of Race', 'Sailing Instructions', and 'Course Diagrams' describe important attributes of a yacht race. CLRA already had this information in Microsoft Word format, so Bayview Interenet's content and style saving utility, Insert A Doc was used to insert these documents into the web site.

Photo Albums

Lots of people enjoy pictures of sailboats in action, particularly the sailors, but also the spectators, friends, families, and the public in general. Bayview Internet Sites feature multiple templates for photo albums in its offering of page layouts.  However, one of the things that makes Bayview Internet Sites unique is the ability to farm out pages to members. Individuals and groups can be empowered with the ability to modify any page on the web site. Doing so spreads out the work load, makes people feel like they are part of the effort, and perhaps most importantly, gets more people actively involved in adding content to the site.

Race Results

Posting Race Results Quickly

Another major attraction for this web site is the race results. All sailors want to find out how they placed, by how much they won or lost, and how they stand overall in the event, and it can't happen fast enough.

Evidently, getting race results posted on the web has been a vexing problem for a lot of racing clubs. Race results can be stored in Excel and Access have been employed as well as other proprietary programs such as Sailwave. The problem has been to get the results posted to the web from the scoring software quickly and efficiently. Insert A Doc is the solution!
